The Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards™ is the brainchild of handbag designer turned curator, Emily Blumenthal will be held on the 14th June at the School of Visual Arts Theatre in New York City.

The Independent Handbag Awards (IHDA) provide emerging designers from all over the world access to business and brand-bolstering prizes from sponsors like The Trickle Up, Nasty Girl, Neiman Marcus, Guess, Mary Kay®Cosmetics, Fuji Film Instax, Bernina, also included is a feature in the September issue of InStyle and more.

The bag is designed and produced in my home country, Nigeria which makes us qualify for the award category as a SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE HANDBAG. Nigeria is full of great and amazing talents and opportunities and as a designer I am very proud of my culture and heritage. I want to be able to change the narrative by preserving our traditional techniques and heritage and also give back by employing young skilled artisans who might have been on the streets jobless and paying them to help sustain themselves and their families.
